A Man, a Dog, and a Dream

If you’ve ever heard the saying, “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder,” then you’ll understand how I see the world. To me, everything has the potential to become something beautiful.

My best friend Sophie and I spend countless weekends exploring estate sales, antique shops, thrift stores, and even alleyways in search of forgotten treasures. Friends jokingly call it “junking.” I call it giving overlooked pieces a second chance to be beautiful, useful, and loved again.

Every antique has a story. If these pieces could speak, imagine the lives they would describe—the homes they once filled, the journeys they made, the hands that carefully held them over generations. That curiosity has always inspired me, and it’s the same passion that led me to create The Flannel Bear.

Sophie—the original Flannel Bear—still faithfully watches over the studio, keeping it safe, warm, and full of inspiration.

The Birth of Our Collections

Every collection begins with discovery.

Sometimes it’s an elegant piece of vintage glass. Other times it’s beautifully weathered stonework or an unusual vessel that immediately captures my attention. I never search for a specific piece—it finds me.

When something truly speaks to me, I look for additional pieces that share its character so I can create a thoughtfully curated, limited collection. These forgotten treasures, once hidden away in attics or tucked onto dusty thrift store shelves, are given a new purpose and a new life.

My hope is that each collection shares the same sense of wonder I felt when I first discovered it.

Every vessel is chosen with sustainability in mind. Our candles are designed to be reused, repurposed, and recycled long after the final flame has gone out. One of my favorite thoughts is imagining where each vessel will live next and how someone will continue its story.

The Art of the Blend

Creating the perfect fragrance is often the final—and sometimes the most rewarding—step.

I approach fragrance the way a chef approaches spices. Individual oils are carefully selected, blended, adjusted, and tested until everything feels perfectly balanced. Sometimes I know immediately when a blend belongs inside a particular vessel. Other times it takes patience, experimentation, and intuition before everything comes together.

That same attention to detail is poured into every candle we create.

Each The Flannel Bear candle is hand-poured using:

  • 100% natural soy wax
  • Lead-free cotton wicks
  • Premium fragrance oils
  • Carefully selected vintage and artisan vessels

The result is a clean, even burn that celebrates the harmony of scent, light, craftsmanship, and timeless design.

A Thousand Stars on a Quiet Night

If you’ve ever watched candlelight shimmer through cut crystal, you know the magic.

The light dances across every facet, filling the room with tiny reflections that resemble a thousand stars scattered across a quiet evening sky. It reminds me of standing outside, waiting for Orion the Hunter to appear among the stars.

That feeling of peace, warmth, and quiet wonder is what inspired The Flannel Bear.

My hope is that every candle brings more than fragrance into your home. I hope it brings comfort, beauty, meaningful moments, and a reminder that even the most forgotten things can become extraordinary once again.
