On April 12th, we held a one-day optometry clinic (Voshito) for refugees re-settling in Phoenix. This event was held in association with the International Refugee Committee (IRC) and other organizations that serve refugee populations. The event was held at the Heritage Presbyterian Church in Glendale, AZ and IRC supplied transportation to the event for patients from outside the city of Glendale. We were able to provide exams to about 75 people with the help of over 40 volunteers. As a result, 29 individuals were prescribed corrective eyeglasses, with no further medical follow-up required. Additionally, five individuals received reading glasses, and fourteen individuals have been referred to the Midwestern Eye Institute (MWU) for comprehensive evaluations due to suspected underlying medical conditions. We will be doing our best to get these patients scheduled into the clinic very soon, hopefully under the MWU grant program if they qualify financially.
Thank you to all our volunteers, the IRC, and the Heritage Presbyterian Church!
