Local Author’s Novel Series First Place Winner

Local author Dave Lager, 82, Rock Island, recently received a First Place Prize in the Thriller / Suspense Category for his Ro Delahanty Novel Series at the Chanticleer International Book Awards (CIBA) ceremony held in Bellingham, Washington, April 20, 2024.

Lager has published six police procedural novels following the adventures of a young, female deputy sheriff – Ro Delahanty – in fictional, semi-rural Fort Armstrong County, Iowa, except she finds lots of ways to get into trouble.

The four novels in the series that won first place are: Ro’s Handle, book one; Hear Evil, book two; Losses, book three; and Secrets Never End, book four.

Sniper’s Day, book five, was a Finalist for the Best Thriller / Suspense individual Novel in the CIBA competition.

Revelations, book six, was published earlier in 2024.

The books are available as softcover and eBook exclusively on Amazon and at the Artsy Bookworm Boutique in the Skeleton Key Arts & Antiques, Rosk Island.

Bellingham, Washington, based Chanticleer Book Reviews and Media is an authors’ membership organization offering reviews, editorial assistance, workshops, a clearinghouse of writer services, and an online writers’ community. Their major event is the annual Chanticleer Authors Conference and International Awards (CIBA) competition, held each spring.

Entries must pass through a series of rigorous reader cuts, Long List, Short List, Semi-Finalist, and Finalist in their category. First Place winners are then selected from the list of Finalists.

“The competition is fierce,” says Kathryn “Kiffer” Brown, founder, and CEO of Chanticleer. “We receive thousands of entries. Even reaching the Finalist stage means you are among the most elite writers.”
